Why Orca?
The idea for Orca Accounting originated on the Oregon coast, a beautiful slice of the Pacific Northwest I frequented during my corporate days. The coastal environment that orcas thrive in, where “the rivers meet the sea”, is nothing short of inspirational, and was very conducive to daydreaming about how I’d operate an accounting firm of my own.
Leah McCool
Owner | Accountant
Hi! I’m Leah, the owner and accountant of Orca Accounting. My firm works with companies grossing 6-7 figures annually by offering managed bookkeeping solutions and strategic financial guidance to help growing businesses thrive.
With a background in auditing at Moss Adams, LLP and years as a Senior Accountant in the startup world, I combine modern professionalism, regulatory competence, and a client-centered approach to deliver complete, accurate, and timely results.
When I’m not in the office, I enjoy exploring Oregon’s great outdoors with my husband and rescue pets—a dog names Pismo and a cat named Fern.

Bookkeeping is the process of recording, organizing, and maintaining financial records for a business.
Here are some examples of what bookkeeping includes:
reconciling bank accounts
ensuring accurate recording of income, expenses, transactions involving assets, liabilities, and equity
receipt documentation
other balance sheet reconciliations (inventory, tax liabilities)
annual 1099 prep and filings
Done properly, your financial data is up-to-date, accurate, and is the financial foundation of your business, allowing you to make data-driven decisions for your business while maintaining compliance with tax laws.

Due to financial constraints, many small business owners manage their own bookkeeping at first. However, as your business scales, the accounting becomes more complex, and the risk of having inaccurate, disorganized, and noncompliant records is higher.

I genuinely love accounting. Before my degree and corporate experience, my background is in small family business. I’m very passionate about how accounting tells a company’s financial story, and how that story can help business owners make decisions and focus on the parts of their business that they love.
You’re getting a professional, CPA eligible accountant for the price of a bookkeeper.
I genuinely want to support you. My clients receive monthly 1-on-1 meetings with me (in-person if local, virtually if not) to connect on questions and updates.
Modern client portal. I don’t like wasting energy over email. My clients get a secure portal of their own, complete with direct messaging, file sharing, task listing, secure billing, and meeting scheduling.
